This International Seminar focused on Life Long Learning processes, through the eyes of higher education institutions, colleges, the world of work and other stakeholders. Emphasis will be placed on the growing importance of short cycle higher education programs and qualifications at level 5 in the European Qualifications Framework as well as beyond Europe, in the U.S. and Canada, on the involvement of ‘the labor market’ in short-cycle higher education programs, existing approaches to Recognition of Prior Learning, the role of Quality Assurance in formal and non-formal learning (internal and external procedures) and others.
Presentations and workshops
Seminar presentations discussed present developments and studies on LLL, in combination with workshops.
Organization
The seminar was organized by Leido Academy (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), as part of the international Atlantis project ‘Short Cycle Higher Education in Europe and the US: Addressing Social and Economic Needs’. Partners in this project are: Leido Academy, University of Toledo, Owens Community College (Toledo) and International University College (Dobrich, Bulgaria).
One of the aims of this seminar was to investigate the possibility of founding a world-wide network of institutions, involved in ‘short higher education programs’. Later more about this, on this website.
